Final: Meridian 27 – Royal 33

Final: Meridian 27 - Royal 33
Really, a helluva game. Meridian was in the game to the very end. Ultimately, mistakes—3 turnovers, penalties, and dropped passes—were the differences in the game. You can’t make mistakes against a superior team like Royal. Sometimes you can get away with them. Not today, and not against an opponent like that. Royal is every bit ...

Know Thy Opponent: Royal

Know Thy Opponent: Royal
For those who labored through the Royale Review series, a question: Which is your favorite touchdown allowed by the Royal defense? The one by Connell or Columbia-Burbank in the regular season? Or perhaps the one by La Salle or Newport in the playoffs? I’ll go with recency-bias and pick the fourth touchdown given up by ...

Meridian defeats La Center 34-14, Royal next in championship

Meridian defeats La Center 34-14, Royal next in championship
Just me or does that look like a “M”? Meridian beat La Center tonight in the semifinals, 34-14, in another game that really wasn’t that close. La Center opened the game with a very nice, 75-yard scoring drive. They wouldn’t score again until the game was well out of hand in the fourth quarter. Next ...

Meridian vs. La Center in Semifinals, 4PM Saturday, Civic Field

Meridian vs. La Center in Semifinals, 4PM Saturday, Civic Field
Meridian will play LaCenter on Saturday, 4PM at Civic Field in the westside 1A semifinals. LaCenter is 10-2 on the season, but their only losses were to 2A Hockinson and Woodland in the first two weeks of the season. Hockinson, by the way, is 12-0 and will play West Spokane in the 2A semis.

Meridian 63, Hoquiam 21; Monte next in Quarters

Meridian beat Hoquiam tonight 63-21 in a game that wasn’t that close. The Griz had no quit in them but never really got anything going offensively. Defensively they were opportunistic to force 2 pick-sixes, but one came late in the game on a 4th-and-long. Next is Monte in the quarterfinals at Civic Saturday, 1PM.

Know Thy Opponent: Cedar Park Christian

Know Thy Opponent: Cedar Park Christian
We covered much of the Cedar Park Christian/Butch Goncharoff backstory last week. Since then, CPC beat Tenino 37-26 last week in a non-leaguer as their final regular season game, thus finishing 4-5 on the season. Anyone who watched Bellevue under Goncharoff will recognize what CPC is doing now offensively. Wing’ed T, the synchronized offensive line ...

Know Thy Opponent: Mt. Baker

Know Thy Opponent: Mt. Baker
Another week, and another tilt (I like to write ’tilt’, makes me feel like an old-timey sportswriter) against another top-ten league opponent. Our few yet Mighty Trohahns can’t catch a break. Overmatched but not undaunted, Meridian faces 7th ranked Mt. Baker tonight. Mount Baker completely revamped their offense this year and adopted the Air Raid, after ...

Know Thy Opponent: Connell

Know Thy Opponent: Connell
Good morning, Trohahn fans. When last we saw Connell, it was a fantastic finish to a tremendous game to close out an amazing championship season. Connell comes out of the mists of memory into the present as a 10-1 team, losing only to top-ranked Royal. They’re tough, mean, and multiple. The Herald previews the game thusly: ...
