Meridian vs. La Center in Semifinals, 4PM Saturday, Civic Field
Meridian will play LaCenter on Saturday, 4PM at Civic Field in the westside 1A semifinals. LaCenter is 10-2 on the season, but their only losses were to 2A Hockinson and Woodland in the first two weeks of the season. Hockinson, by the way, is 12-0 and will play West Spokane in the 2A semis.

Know Thy Opponent: Montesano

Know Thy Opponent: Montesano
Of non-league opponents over the years, Meridian has only played Kings (8) more times than Montesano (7). We do kinda know them. The first meeting was in the 1984 semifinals, and then another 3 times in the next 12 years of playoffs. But I was surprised to see we haven’t played them now since 2009 ...

Meridian 63, Hoquiam 21; Monte next in Quarters

Meridian beat Hoquiam tonight 63-21 in a game that wasn’t that close. The Griz had no quit in them but never really got anything going offensively. Defensively they were opportunistic to force 2 pick-sixes, but one came late in the game on a 4th-and-long. Next is Monte in the quarterfinals at Civic Saturday, 1PM.

Know Thy Opponent: Hoquiam

Know Thy Opponent: Hoquiam
Good morning, Trohahn fans. It is good to be entering the real playoffs as a top-seed and home team. Much respect to the Hoqqies making the 200 mile drive. And for such a distance, Meridian and Hoquiam have played a few times. We split home/home non-league games with them in 2014 and 2015. In playoffs, we ...

Know Thy Opponent: Cedar Park Christian

Know Thy Opponent: Cedar Park Christian
We covered much of the Cedar Park Christian/Butch Goncharoff backstory last week. Since then, CPC beat Tenino 37-26 last week in a non-leaguer as their final regular season game, thus finishing 4-5 on the season. Anyone who watched Bellevue under Goncharoff will recognize what CPC is doing now offensively. Wing’ed T, the synchronized offensive line ...

Meridian Trojans — Undefeated League Champs

Meridian Trojans — Undefeated League Champs
Meridian finishes the regular season 9-0 and the undefeated NWC 1A League Champions, Meridian’s first outright title since 2010. Incidentally, the 52 points against Mt. Baker last night was the only time I can find since 1974 where Meridian scored over 50 against Baker. The next highest were 46-28 in 2000, 42-12 in 2010, and ...

Know Thy Opponent: Mt. Baker

Know Thy Opponent: Mt. Baker
The cynic would say the brevity of this post would be due to fatigue and sloth. And the cynic would be right. But also true is the familiarity of seeing a team again just a few weeks later. Baker is largely known quantity, a hulking mass of menace looming to the East. The Mounties rebounded ...

Meridian vs. Cedar Park Christian, District 1 Playoffs, Nov. 3

Friday night’s surprise win over Nooksack clinched the NWC 1A #1 seed for the Mighty Trohahns, thus clarifying the rest of the season. Meridian will host Cedar Park Christian on Nov. 3, at a site TBD, playing for the District 1 1A #1 seed into the state round of 16. In the world of Washington ...

Know Thy Opponent: Nooksack⨧

Know Thy Opponent: Nooksack⨧
Know this. To be certain, these are two teams fighting tonight for their November. But Nooksack holds the decisive motivational edge, knowing they let the first meeting slip away from them. Adjustments will be made, new schemes implemented, eyes cleared, hearts filled, all the intangible stuff. Coaching, plus a D1 QB, and lots of motivation ...

Know Thy Opponent: Lynden Christian

Know Thy Opponent: Lynden Christian
Hold on, another time around. Lynden Christian comes off a very impressive 28-14 win over highly-ranked Nooksack last week. Jordan Riddle and QB Ty Van Dyken both rushed for over 100 yards. More remarkable, the Lyncs held NV’s D1-bound QB to just 145 passing. Astounding really. The question is, after battered & bruised by 3 Top 10 teams in ...
