Final: Meridian 14/Monte 54

November 15th, 2009 by admin

Well, that sucked.

But before any more of that, I must personally commend Tait Slesk from playing one helluva gutsy game.  It became clear pretty quick how banged up Tait was, but he kept scraping himself up off the turf and getting back after it.  I am impressed.

Monte is the real deal, crisp, effective and well-executed.  Meridian made early mistakes, with an interception and giving up an onside kick, and Monte took those opportunities to the hilt.

Any discussion of injuries will sound like excuse making… Ahh, hell with it, we had a lot of kids hurt.  The kids we did have played hard, right through the end, but Monte was every bit the better team tonight.

Fortunately for us the past decade, we’ve been on the other side of these big playoff wins.  Tonight we were on the wrong side.  Doesn’t mean we have to like, that’s just the way it goes sometimes.

Seniors, I sincerely hope you wrung every bit out of this season.  Clearly it didn’t end as you would have wanted, yet a 12 games spent playing the world’s greatest game and losing all them would be far better than many other pursuits.  Take balancing financial spreadsheets, for example.

Juniors, sophomores, and freshman: Cultivate your anger over the off season.  Nourish it.  Prune back the shoots that do no good so that your Anger blooms strong next fall.  Bring your Anger with you into the weightroom in a planter.  Hell, throw the Linus blanket around your little potted Anger if that’s what it takes.  Tonight did not end great, and that happens, but that doesn’t mean you have it like it.  Use it.
