Know Thy Opponent: Nooksack⨧

Know this.

To be certain, these are two teams fighting tonight for their November. But Nooksack holds the decisive motivational edge, knowing they let the first meeting slip away from them. Adjustments will be made, new schemes implemented, eyes cleared, hearts filled, all the intangible stuff. Coaching, plus a D1 QB, and lots of motivation makes for a formidable opponent. The revenge factor is real.

The Herald previews tonight’s game thusly:

Meridian at Nooksack Valley

Time: 7 p.m. Friday

Site: Nooksack Valley High School

Trojans (7-0, 4-0 1A NWC) update: No. 2 Meridian clinched at least a share of the 1A NWC title with a 33-20 win over Lynden Christian Friday. Simon Burkett had his fifth 300-yard passing game, throwing for 324 yards and a season-high five TDs. Four of them went to Byrce Vandenhaak, who finished with six catches for 205 yards. Cole Roberts rushed for 97 yards on 13 carries, while the Trojans defense held LC to 76 yards rushing on 23 carries.

Pioneers (4-3, 1-3 1A NWC) update: Nooksack Valley dropped its third straight 29-12 at Mount Baker Friday. Casey Bauman passed for 226 yards but was held without a touchdown pass for the first time this season. He did rush for a pair of scores for the Pioneers’ only points. Austin O’Bryan rushed for 84 yards on 10 carries and caught five passes for 71 yards. Nooksack’s defense has allowed 241.3 yards per game in its four 1A NWC games this year.

Key to the game: Meridian claimed the first meeting between the schools 50-36 in Week 5, though the duel between Bauman and Burkett was pretty much a push – Bauman had 339 yards and five TDs passing, while Burkett threw for 353 yards and four TDs. The next time these two likely face off, they’ll be in the Big Sky Conference in college.

Little more to say than that when the rematch comes just a couple weeks after the first meeting.

The Mainstream Media has eschewed tonight’s game for live coverage. Fear not though. The indefatigable Tyler from History of Whatcom County Football says he will be on Facebook Live Video from the game. Very cool. Check his Facebook Page around kickoff for more information. In addition, we should have scoring updates on Facebook and Twitter.

Kickoff is 7PM at Nooksack HS. Go Trojans.
