Know Thy Opponent: Anacortez

Hey. This thing still on?

Welcome to another season Trojan fans. It’s been a busy week, apologies for an abbreviated write up.

Anacortéz finished last year 1-8, but they return just about everyone. Senior Trystan Lowry returns as a multi-year starter at QB, and they have three senior returners on the offensive & defensive lines.

Offensively, the Seahawks are predominately Pistol-spread; zone, option, play-action passing.

From the team preview:

“We were competitive in games last year, but were down a few bodies with injuries and conditioning. We were stretched thin, but we’re hoping to have fewer linemen play both ways so we can keep them fresh,” [Coach] Freier said.

Last year’s Anacortes team went 1-8, but a few of its losses were close.

“We had a couple of games decided by a touchdown. If we win those, we’re in the playoffs,” South said.

This year, the Seahawks hope to be in the hunt. They’ll get a strong test early as they host Meridian, a Class 1A power, on Friday.

“We’re excited. We’re looking forward to it,” Freier said.

As for our Mighty Trohans, well, you know the drill. Slow and small, but nice kids. Doesn’t appear to be a game preview from the Herald today.

Kickoff is 7PM at Anacortes High School. There is a very remote chance the Youtube channel AHSLive might be streaming the game. They did some game last year, but there’s nothing announced for tonight. It might be worth a look. Scores will be updated on Facebook and Twitter (@meridianfb) as often as possible

Go Trojans.
